Return to Ecology — See the Complexity

SIMPLY THIS’s Ecological Formulation System Responds to Skin’s Root-Level Needs

SIMPLY THIS pioneered its own ecological view of skincare — one that respects the complexity and multidimensionality of skin’s ecosystem, builds stability at skin’s own root level, and takes a longer-term view toward solving skin concerns. This philosophy overturns the conventional, linear, cause-and-effect way of understanding skin, restoring skin to what it actually is: a system defined by correlation, not simple causation.

Throughout product development, SIMPLY THIS stays faithful to skin’s completeness and complexity as an independent ecosystem. Starting from a trait correlation map of skin, the brand builds its ingredient matrix around the most influential, core factors first, then works outward to address needs across every pathway layer — in pursuit of a balanced skin ecosystem.

Simply This runs network pharmacology research across multiple frontier biological databases. Take “sensitivity” as an example — behind it lie 14,703 related targets, forming a “trait–pathway–target–ingredient” network.

This is the thinking behind the core of SIMPLY THIS’s formulation approach: the Ecological Formulation System, or EFS. EFS connects the full chain of work — from mapping skin-trait targets, to ingredient screening and formulation, to developing new raw materials — into a single, continuous process.

At KosmoGenesis, its ecological mechanism research center in Silicon Valley, SIMPLY THIS applies drug-discovery tools to run network pharmacology research across multiple frontier biological databases. This produces a target map for each skin trait, deconstructs the correlations within skin’s ecosystem, and builds out a “trait–pathway–target–ingredient” network map — from which the brand identifies the core correlative factors behind each trait.

Once the operating logic and physiological relationships behind each factor are mapped, scientists break down the most important ones even further, precisely identifying the core substance and core pathway behind each. From a large ingredient database, the team then identifies Replenish actives — ingredients capable of penetrating skin and replenishing that core substance in its own, homologous form — alongside Reactivate actives, ingredients that revive the core pathway itself, for example by driving key enzymatic reactions or improving pathway efficiency. Replenish and Reactivate actives are then tested together to find their optimal synergistic ratio, becoming that trait’s Rⁿ Complex. At the same time, the brand builds out its ingredient matrix in order of each factor’s correlation strength, so the finished product delivers a steady, well-rounded improvement to skin’s overall ecosystem.

SIMPLY THIS’s Ecological Formulation System overturns the traditional, linear understanding of cause and effect, choosing instead to understand — and respond to — the complex network behind every skin concern from a more complete, more root-level angle. It optimizes skin’s ecosystem with a long-term view, delivering results that last.
